WHAT IS THIS THING CALLED DENIAL?

Denial is almost always associated with substance abuse. However, it is one form of a defensive system that people use in everyday life to justify their behavior. For instance, you take a 2-hour lunch rather than the allotted 1 hour, telling yourself you deserve it because they don’t pay you enough to begin with, maybe you forgot that you accepted the compensation they offered when you hired on. 1.) It is necessary to be like and approved by everyone.
2.) I should be good or perfect at everything I do.
3.) When people are bad they should be punished.

Thinking back on my recent blogs brings me to communication* among couples. It doesn’t have to be between parties in an intimate relationship; it may well be with co-workers, etc. We have four basic methods of communicating.

We can be aggressive, which I admitted to in my last blog. This form of communication results in a win-lose outcome. I may win, but have absolutely no regard for your thoughts, beliefs nor feelings.

In my introductory blog, I stated that my dogs might teach me something, and they did by staying calm, cool and collected. Yes, I’ve seen this behavior innumerable times, however, on this occasion, I needed, not only to observe the same but implement this behavior for myself and my stability.
